Light stabilizer is a kind of material which can inhibit or weaken the degradation of light to plastic and improve the light resistance of plastic raw materials. Most of them can absorb ultraviolet light, so they are also called ultraviolet absorbers.
Ultraviolet ray in sunlight is the main reason for aging of polymer materials. Although ultraviolet light only accounted for about 5% of sunlight, but the energy is very large, its energy is enough to destroy the chemical bonds of the polymer, so that its molecular chain fracture, crosslinking, resulting in its mechanical properties of evil change, at the same time, its color has also changed. The mechanism of action of light stabilizer varies with its structure and variety. Some can block, reflect or absorb UV rays and convert them into harmless heat. Some can quench the excited state of molecules or groups excited by ultraviolet light and make them return to the ground state, which excludes or slows down the possibility of photoredox reaction.
